Expectations are high when it comes to the Tesla Model 3. It's a model that not only could turn Tesla into a volume builder, it could be for the electric car as the Ford Model T was for the car in general – we're being optimistic . And let's not forget that, at the moment, there are around 400,000 eager customers on the waiting list for the latest creation of the American brand.

Despite all the media coverage, little or nothing was known about the future model, apart from the base price ($35 thousand) and the autonomy (350 km). Until today.

On the Tesla website, you can access the following table.

Tesla Model 3 - specification list

According to Elon Musk, the Tesla Model 3 will be a more compact and simpler version of the Model S. This is after some customers have already questioned whether they should change their Model S to Model 3.

Although Model 3 is our latest model, it is not "Version 3" or "next generation Tesla". (...) The Model 3 is smaller and simpler, and will come with far fewer options than the Model S.

Elon Musk, Executive Director of Tesla

This specification list reveals more detailed features of the future Model 3 and confirms the statements of Tesla's top manager. Starting with the size: 4.69 m in length, almost 30 cm less than the 4.97 m of the Model S.

The announced simplicity can be confirmed in the table, in the item «customization», where it is revealed that the Model 3 will have less than 100 possible configurations, compared to the more than 1500 of the Model S.

The remaining data available reveal that the Model 3's interior will have only a 15-inch central screen that will concentrate all the information, capacity for five seats (the Model S can have two more), and the total capacity of the luggage compartments (front and rear ) will be roughly half that of the Model S. In the performance chapter, depending on the version, the Model S can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in an “absurd” 2.3 seconds. The Model 3 still doesn't know how many versions it will have, but for the initial version, Tesla announces about 5.6 seconds. Which is already significantly fast.

An important note refers to charging the batteries of the future model. Current Model S owners can charge the batteries at Tesla Rapid Charge Stations for free, something future Model 3 owners will not have to pay for their enjoyment.
