Ford has teamed up with BraunAbility to develop the first wheelchair accessible SUV, the Ford Explorer BraunAbility MXV. It is only available for this model, which is sold in the USA.

Because it is not just performance vehicles that an automobile brand is made, Ford presented its first mobility option, in partnership with BraunAbility, an American company dedicated to the production of vans for people with mobility difficulties.

Based on one of the brand's most popular models in the US, the Ford Explorer, the Ford Explorer BraunAbility MXV is equipped with patented sliding door technology and an illuminated ramp for easy access to the vehicle. Inside, the aim was to maximize space in order to provide the greatest possible comfort. Therefore, the front seats are completely removable, making it possible to drive from a wheelchair.

In addition, the Ford Explorer BraunAbility MXV has a 3.5 liter V6 engine that provides the same performance and fuel consumption as the standard Ford Explorer. “Our customers are very excited to have one more option that reflects their individuality. For us, the Ford Explorer was the obvious choice, as it is one of the most prestigious American vehicles and represents independence and freedom,” said Nick Gutwein, CEO of BraunAbility.

The BraunAbility MXV features a 28.5-inch ramp for convenient side door access.
