It's official: Skoda Kodiaq is the name of the next Czech SUV

Skoda's new SUV lost the “K” to make way for a “Q”. The launch is only scheduled for 2017.

Skoda has just unveiled the name of its new family model, which instead of Kodiak will be called Kodiaq, in honor of the bear with the same name that lives on Kodiak Island, Alaska. Despite sharing some characteristics with the equivalent proposals of the Volkswagen group brands – Seat Ateca and the new Volkswagen Tiguan – the new SUV should stand out for its more dynamic lines and large dimensions.

In fact, at 1.91 m wide, 1.68 m high and 4.70 m long, the Skoda Kodiaq offers space for seven occupants and a high luggage capacity, just as the brand has accustomed us to. On an aesthetic level, the Skoda Kodiaq should resemble the concept presented at the Geneva Motor Show.

In addition to the possibility of having a hybrid engine, a range of gasoline engines is expected from the 1.0 liter 3-cylinder to the 2.0 TSI of 177 hp. On the diesel supply side, a 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI engine is expected. All power will be transmitted to the front wheels by a six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed automatic transmission (DSG). However, the brand will also make available an all-wheel drive system.

The new Skoda Kodiaq should be presented later this year, and its launch for the domestic market should only take place in 2017.
