Jeep Crew Chief 715: «solid as a rock»

The Jeep Crew Chief 715 celebrates the military connections of the American brand's first models.

Every year, the western US city of Moab (Utah) hosts the Easter Jeep Safari, an event that attracts thousands of off-road vehicles for an adventure along the rugged trails of Canyonlands National Park. It turns out that in 2016 this event celebrated 50 years of existence, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Jeep. This was the perfect excuse for the American brand to launch one of its most exciting prototypes in memory, the Jeep Crew Chief 715.

Based on the Wrangler – chassis (extended), engine and cabin – the Crew Chief 715 was “stealing” the inspiration from the military vehicles of the 60s, in particular the Jeep Kaiser M715, whose production lasted just two years. As such, the model integrates quite square shapes and a minimalist design with a utilitarian character – something else you wouldn't expect. To survive the uneven ground, the Crew Chief 715 also got Fox Racing 2.0 shock absorbers and military tires with 20-inch wheels.

Inside, the main priority was functionality, but without sacrificing the quality of materials and the navigation and infotainment system. The big highlight goes to the compass placed on the center console and the four switches (very military style) on the dashboard.

Under the hood we find a 3.6 liter V6 Pentastar engine with 289 hp and 353 Nm of torque, coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, as it is just a concept that celebrates the brand's legacy, the Jeep Crew Chief 715 is unlikely to make it to production lines.
