A nice Loaf of Bread transformed into a 530hp monster

Fred Bernhard is the father of a Loaf of Bread equipped with the engine of a Porsche 911 (993). As the father he is, he is proud. There is no lack of reasons...

The 2015 edition of the Wörthersee Festival promises. Just when we thought that the most radical proposals had already been presented, there was the announcement of a bi-turbo Shape Bread with 530hp and 757Nm of maximum torque.

Its creator Fred Bernhard dubbed it the Volkswagen T1 Race Taxi. In all, he spent six years developing and building this project. Six years of life that Bernhard will surely regain at the controls of this true beast.

Back there – in the wrong place as in all the cars developed by Ferdinand Porsche at that time – the small and reliable four-cylinder boxer engine gave way to a flat-six transplanted from a Porsche 911 of the 993 generation, the last air-cooled.

As more than 300hp did not serve the intentions of this mechanical engineer, two more turbos were added to the engine. Power rose to an impressive 530hp and 757Nm of maximum torque. The gearbox was donated by a 996 GT3 and the braking and steering system came from a 993. Well wasted time, don't you think?
