New Mercedes GLE Coupé: new German bet

Mercedes-Benz has combined two vehicle classes, each with a distinct styling, to create the Mercedes GLE Coupé. The range of the German manufacturer grows again, betting on an unprecedented bodywork that intends to compete with the BMW X6.

The sporty nature of a Coupé combined with the muscular air of an SUV, these were the characteristics that Mercedes tried to reconcile in the new Mercedes GLE Coupé.

With its fluid side contour, long, low cabin, radiator grille with chrome center trim and S Coupé-inspired rear design, the GLE Coupé features details typical of particularly sporty Mercedes-Benz models.

Conceived to compete with proposals like the BMW X6, in its debut the GLE Coupé will be available associated with three engines, in a power range that varies between 190 kW (258 hp) and 270 kW (367 hp). The only diesel available will be the GLE Coupé 350 d 4Matic, equipped with a turbo V6 engine delivering 258 hp and 620 Nm of maximum torque.

In the field of gasoline engines, in addition to the GLE 400 4Matic, with a twin-turbo V6 with 333 hp and 480 Nm, the GLE 450 AMG 4Matic will be available, which uses a version of the same engine but with 367 hp and 520 Nm. the range has permanent all-wheel drive and has the services of a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the extensive standard equipment list, the DYNAMIC SELECT dynamic behavior control system, the sport direct steering system and the driver assistance systems, the GLE 450 AMG is equipped in all versions with the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission nine-speed and 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive.

The GLE Coupé will be shown to the public for the first time at the beginning of the year at the Detroit Motor Show and is expected to reach the Portuguese market in the summer of 2015.
