BMW 3 Series gets facelift and 3-cylinder engine

The facelift of the BMW 3 Series was unveiled today by the Bavarian brand. The changes abroad are small, but it is when we enter the cockpit or open the hood that we see the main innovations. There are 4 petrol engines, 7 diesel engines and the introduction of new hybrid engines.

At the exterior level there are small changes, BMW advances that changed the air intakes, the optics that are now available in full led. The rear lights are now standard in LED. New paintwork and redesigned wheels are also part of the Bavarian brand's offer for the “new” BMW 3 Series.

Interior and Technology

Inside there are new materials for the air vents and dashboard, as well as changes to the cup holder. In terms of driving support gadgets, there are also changes: a new head-up display and a revised professional navigation system. According to BMW, the navigation system is faster and the maps can be updated free of charge for 3 years.

The Bavarian brand also claims that the BMW 3 Series is now the first in the segment to receive LTE band (acronym for Long-Term Evolution, commonly known as 4G LTE). The BMW 3 Series also received changes in terms of parking technologies, with the automatic parking system now allowing parallel parking.

Gasoline Engines

In gasoline engines the powers are between 136 hp and 326 hp, in diesel engines they start at 116 hp and end at 313 hp. If so far little or nothing new has changed in the renewed BMW 3 Series, it is in the engines that we see the main changes. The entry-level petrol engine of the BMW 3 Series, now available in the BMW 318i Series, is a 1.5 3-cylinder turbo with 136 hp and 220 Nm. The small block is capable of an acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 8.9s a top speed of 210 km/h.

In the remaining 3 petrol engines available there are also changes. There is a new 6-cylinder, 3-liter aluminum engine available in the 340i which now replaces the 335i. This engine has 326 hp and 450 Nm and is fitted with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, Steptronic. The giant breath allows you to deliver 5.1 sec. from 0-100 km/h and 250 km/h of limited speed.

Another novelty is the introduction of the 330e, which will feature a hybrid engine delivering 252 hp and 620 Nm of combined power. Here the traditional 0-100 km/h sprint takes place in 6.3 sec and the top speed is 225 km/h. BMW claims 2.1 l/100 of combined consumption and a range of 35 km in all-electric mode.

diesel engines

In diesel engines, the 20d standard bearer deserves a reference, as it sees its power increase by 6hp to 190hp. BMW also reveals that the X-Drive all-wheel drive system will be available for the BMW 3 Series 320i, 330i, 340i, 318d, 320d and 330d.

Sales of the renewed Series 3 start in the second half of the year, there are still no prices for the national market.
