A week after the Goodwood Festival, dozens of supersports returned to the UK to participate in the Heveningham Hall Concours d’Elegance . An event that brought together machines such as the Bugatti EB110 GT, Ferrari LaFerrari and the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR. As you've already noticed, the latter was one of the great highlights of the weekend and it's not hard to see why.
First of all, a brief «historic» overview: the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR was conceived to compete in the FIA GT Championship, having won 17 of the 22 races held in the GT1 category. Naturally, the FIA regulations required brands to produce the respective homologation versions. As such, in 1997 Mercedes-Benz released a total of 26 road legal copies: 20 coupé models and 6 roadsters . And it was precisely one of the six roadsters produced that was shown – that's the word… – in the gardens of Heveningham Hall.
Given its rarity – each copy is valued at around 2 million euros – it would be expected that the sports car would be treated by its owner as a museum piece, on tour by car events all over the world. Well, as the rules of the «English school» dictate, cars are to be used – and in this case, “to abuse” –, be they utilitarian, classic, luxury models or even high-powered sports cars.
And there would be no better place to take this Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR than on an off-road section – or if you like, cross country… It may not have the most suitable ground clearance for this type of section, nor the necessary protections for the bodywork, but power is not lacking: in total there are 612 hp extracted from a 6.9 V12 block , with a torque of 731 Nm.
