To celebrate 50 years of Cobra's entry into FIA competitions, Shelby America has launched a special edition that promises to thrill many hearts.
It was precisely 50 years ago that the Shelby Cobra was entered for the first time in competitions organized by the FIA, more precisely in the U.S. Road Racing Championship Series. Since then, sporting successes have added up one after the other and the most emblematic «muscle car» ever won the «FIA Manufacturers Championship» trophy just one year later, in 1965.
We already know the rest of the story, Shelby became a cult brand and the Cobra is still a car that makes hearts sigh.
To celebrate and remember in the best way this date, Shelby will produce 50 units of the FIA Shelby Cobra 289, the model responsible for the sporting and commercial success of the model. An extremely reduced number of units that promises to add even more value to the iconic muscle car, known for being demanding, chilling but at the same time very satisfying to drive.
The 50 limited units will be based on the CSX7000 chassis numbering, which will identify this special edition of the FIA Shelby Cobra 289. Designed not only to celebrate 50 years, but also to honor the conductors who made history at their controls. We speak of names like Dan Gurney, Bob Bondurant and Phil Hill.
Aesthetically, this special edition FIA Shelby Cobra 289 is a rigorous reproduction of the period car, only available in Viking Blue and featuring FIA stripes in arctic white. This Shelby also receives a classic interior in black leather, with several badges identifying this special version.
On the outside, in addition to the wheels with powder paint finishes (Powder Coating), it is also possible to choose two materials for the body of the FIA Shelby Cobra 289. The first option includes a body entirely in fiberglass, at a price of 94,995$ and the other version with body entirely in aluminum, will be offered for an expressive $159,995, in the United States.
For all those interested, it is better to hurry up as the first unit was already sold in January, at the prestigious Barrett-Jackson auction. So the remaining units must already be running out, if they haven't all been sold already.
Without a doubt, a unique possibility to acquire a part of the history of motor racing and one of the most successful «muscle cars» of its time.
