Maserati Alfieri confirmed for 2019 with 100% electric version

The Maserati Alfieri first hits the market in a twin-turbo V6 version and only later with a 100% electric engine.

After several advances and setbacks, the production version of the two-seater prototype presented at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show (above) has already been given the green light to move forward. We are talking about the Maserati Alfieri, the new model that will enter the range of sports cars of the Italian brand, first with a twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine and later with a 100% electric engine.

According to Peter Denton, the brand's representative in Europe, the arrival of the combustion engine is scheduled for 2019, while the eco-friendly version will be launched the following year. “The Alfieri will be bigger than the Porsche Boxster and Cayman. The car is being designed as a rival to the 911, but it will be even bigger, closer to the dimensions of the Jaguar F-Type,” he says.

The prototype presented two years ago in Geneva was equipped with a V8 engine, but for reasons related to consumption and emissions, Maserati opted for a V6 block. Who will contribute (and a lot…) in this chapter will be the 100% electric version.

About this version, the responsible for the engineering department of the brand Roberto Fedeli has already guaranteed that the new sports car will be quite different from all other premium zero-emission models. “Current trams are too heavy to be pleasant to drive. It's three seconds of acceleration, top speed, and the excitement stops there. After that, there's nothing left”, admits the Italian engineer. “And sound isn't the most important feature of electric models, so we'll have to find a way to maintain the Maserati character without one of our signature elements,” he explains.
