Small, but promising as much or more than the “big ones”, the Suzuki Xbee — it reads Cross Bee — is the brand's most recent proposal for the segment of city crossovers, a space that is still little frequented. In Europe, in addition to the Ignis, also from Suzuki, with dimensions similar to the XBee, only the Fiat Panda comes close to this concept.
Presented as a prototype at the last Tokyo Motor Show, all that remains is to regret, given the irreverent image, advertised space and competence also for offroading, the fact that it is not scheduled for sale in Europe.
If it looks familiar, it's because the XBee replicates the retro-inspired style of the “kei car” Hustler, only increasing the scale, immediately captivating eyes and attention. Fortunately, the production XBee does not have major aesthetic changes compared to the study that is at the origin.
Suzuki Xbee with 1.0 Turbo semi-hybrid only
Available, according to information already released by the Hamamatsu manufacturer, with a single engine, the well-known 1.0 liter tricylinder with turbocharger, supported by a semi-hybrid system (SHVS) — as we've seen in Swift — as well as by A six-speed automatic transmission, the Xbee can, moreover, even change the front-wheel drive proposed by the factory, for an optional all-wheel drive. Possibility that does not fail to contribute to the affirmation of the adventurous spirit that the outer lines themselves herald.
In addition to these already important attributes, a system of driving modes, with specific configuration for more slippery terrain, such as snow and mud. Not even lacking the not infrequently valuable electronic help for steep descents (Hill Descent Control).
Bi-tone bodywork for style
In addition to technical skills, the Japanese model also has a large number of personalization solutions, starting with an exterior coloration that can also be bi-tone — as is the case with the combination of Yellow and Black, which is possible observe in the car of the images. Equipment such as LED front lighting is available.
Finally, in the cabin, Suzuki ensures there is enough space for five occupants. In addition to a versatility that even allows the front passenger seat to be folded down, in order to have a larger area for cargo transport. This, without forgetting the fact that, in the trunk, there is a trapdoor under the false floor, where it is possible to hide some of the most important belongings.
Attractive... but only for Japanese to buy
In fact, in terms of electing, based on the information we already have, a handicap in this small and functional crossover, it will be, perhaps, the fact that it has not planned sales in Europe. Also because, with this aspect and prices that, in Japan, start at just above 13 thousand euros (version with only front-wheel drive), it seems very likely that it would also be interested in the Old Continent...
