Successor of Ferrari LaFerrari is closer than we imagined

According to one of those responsible for developing the successor to the LaFerrari, the new Italian hypersport could arrive in 2020, at best.

In 2013 the Italian manufacturer presented the "ultimate Ferrari", a model the brand called LaFerrari (a name that was not to everyone's liking), and which replaced the Ferrari Enzo launched 11 years earlier. This time, the brand may not wait that long to launch the ultimate Ferrari.

NOT TO BE MISSED: The Automobile Reason needs you.

it seems, we are just three to five years away from seeing the new Ferrari hypercar . This is said by the Italian brand's technology director, Michael Leiters, in statements to Autocar.

“When we define our new technology and innovation roadmap, we will then consider a successor to LaFerrari. We want to do something different. It won't be a road model with an engine from Formula 1 because, let's face it, the idle would need to be between 2500 and 3000 rpm and the rev range would need to be extended to 16,000 rpm. The F50 used a Formula 1 engine, but that needed several modifications”.

According to Michael Leiters, the plan for the new model will be defined in six months. Regardless of the technology adopted, one thing is certain: the next hypersports car coming out of the ‎Maranello factory will once again be the brand's technological pioneer and will influence the rest of the models in the Ferrari range.

Affalterbach's rival on the way.

From Maranello to Affalterbach, another hypersport may be presented this year, the Mercedes-AMG Project One.

And if Ferrari guarantees that its new engine will not come from Formula 1, in the case of Project One it is almost certain that it will be powered by a 1.6 liter V6 engine in a central rear position capable of reaching 11,000 rpm. And speaking of hypersports, in Woking what is considered the «spiritual successor» of the McLaren F1 is being developed – code-named BP23 – which will surpass the 900 hp maximum power of the P1.

Interesting times are ahead.
