These are the 5 cars with the highest engine capacity you can currently buy.

About a month ago we talked about the change in the paradigm from “downsizing” to “upsizing”, going against the trend that had been happening for some years now.

But if there are models that have escaped the fever of smaller engines, it is in fact the luxury and super sports vehicles – here, consumption and emissions take a back seat.

That's why we've gathered the five production models with the highest displacement today for all tastes and budgets (or not…):

Lamborghini Aventador – 6.5 liters V12

Unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Aventador has much more than its beauty to impress true car lovers.

Underneath this body we find a central rear engine capable of developing 750 hp of power and 690 Nm of torque, directed to all four wheels. As you can guess, the performances are breathtaking: 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and 350 km/h of top speed.

Rolls-Royce Phantom – 6.75 liters V12

From Sant’Agata Bolognese we traveled directly to Derby, UK, where one of the most coveted saloons in the world is made.

The Phantom uses a 6.75 liter V12 engine capable of delivering 460hp and 720Nm of maximum torque, enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. After more than thirteen years at the service of the luxury British manufacturer, the Rolls-Royce Phantom VII will go out of production later this year, so if you're thinking of a Christmas gift, there's still time.

Bentley Mulsanne – 6.75 liters V8

Also coming from the UK and also with 6.75 l of capacity is the Bentley Mulsanne, powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine that develops a respectable 505hp of power and 1020Nm of maximum torque.

Still, if that's not enough, you can always opt for the Mulsanne Speed version, the sportier version, capable of a glorious sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 305km/h.

Bugatti Chiron – 8.0 liters W16

Second on the list is the Bugatti Chiron, the fastest production car on the planet. How fast? Let's say that without the speed limiter the sports car can reach 458 km/h (!), this according to Willi Netuschil, responsible for engineering at Bugatti.

The price to pay for all speed is equally overwhelming: 2.5 million euros.

Dodge Viper – 8.4 liters V10

Of course we had to end up with an American model… When it comes to “giant” engines, the Dodge Viper is king and lord, thanks to its atmospheric V10 block with 8.4 liters of capacity.

The performances are not ashamed either: the sprint from 0-100 km/h is done in 3.5 seconds and the top speed is 325 km/h. Interestingly, despite all these numbers, the poor commercial performance led the FCA to decide to end production of the sports car. Long live the Viper!
