The original car of the superhero Batman, the «Batmobile» was put up for auction by its owner and creator, George Barris.

It was 1966 and George Barris, after buying the concept of the Lincoln Futura for 1 euro from Ford, invested something like 15 thousand dollars to transform it into the ultimate anti-villain machine. The Batmobile entered the Batman hero series and the movie in which Batman and Robin first appeared together. George Barris would be far from thinking that after nearly 50 years his “investment” would yield more than 4 million dollars…

Back in the present this was another day in the life of the world's most famous auto auctioneer, Barrett-Jackson, and as “star of the day” was Gotham's villains' most feared car, the Batmobile. It made a sensation in the audience, which was filled with potential buyers of this unique piece in the world that inspired so many minds. Batman did justice by protecting the population from corruption, Bruce Wayne was a selfless character, although troubled and with a dark past that gave color to the cover. In real life, the fictional car from a comic book story was fetched for 4.62 million dollars – 3.45 million euros with fees worth around 420,000 dollars (314,000 euros).
