Manual cash FWD's: after all, which is the fastest?

Anonim

Today the double-clutch gearboxes stayed in the garage, the highlight goes entirely to three models equipped with manual gearboxes. Seat, Volkswagen and Honda compete for a sprint of 400 meters. Bets accepted...

Pull, pull, pull. In sports cars with the wrong axle drive (did you like the provocation?), putting the power on the ground is not important… it is crucial! Especially in a drag race from 0 to 400 meters.

NOT TO BE MISSED: Perforated, grooved or smooth discs. What is the best option?

As we've said, today the highlight goes to our beloved models with manual gearbox: Seat Leon Cupra 290, Volkswagen Golf Clubsport and Honda Civic Type-R. In addition to the manual gearboxes and the clearly sporty positioning, these three hot hatches also have in common the fact that they all use 2 liter turbo engines.

Of this trio, the most powerful by far is the Type-R (310hp). The Leon Cupra responds with 290 hp and the Golf GTI too – but only for 10 seconds and in overboost mode, after this period the power drops to 265 hp. Will the differences in the technical sheet have repercussions in this drag race? We will see…

No big surprise the Type-R won, didn't they? As a 100% sporty model, the Type-R has the upper hand. In 2nd place comes the Cupra R, presenting perhaps one of the best price/quality/performance ratios today. Finally, there is the Golf GTI Clubsport, a special model, numbered, which makes use of its image, tradition and performance (which does not compromise) to continue to win a legion of fans.

Provocations aside, the truth is that front-wheel drive sports cars are better than ever. The ability of modern front axles to manage the harmful effects of power is surprising and guarantee levels of performance and fun that only a short time ago were reserved for rear-wheel-drive models. Not any more… long live FWD!
