Alfa Romeo GTS. What if the BMW M2 had an Italian rival?

Anonim

Alfa Romeo remains focused on expanding its SUV range with two more models: the Tonale and a small crossover that has yet to be confirmed (apparently, it already has a name, Brennero). But what about the sports that helped make the legion of “Alfistas” what it is today, where are they?

It is true that in the current alignment of the Arese brand we find proposals such as the Stelvio Quadrifoglio and the Giulia Quadrifoglio, as well as the Giulia GTAm, which we have already led. But other than that, there don't seem to be any plans to recover coupés and spiders, to our pity.

However, there are those who continue to yearn for models like these. And to answer that, Brazilian designer Guilherme Araujo — currently working at Ford — has just created a coupé that stands out as a rival to models like the BMW M2.

Alfa Romeo GTS

Denominated GTS , this Alfa Romeo was designed having as its starting point the architecture of a BMW M2 — front engine in longitudinal position and rear-wheel drive — but adopted a retrofuturistic appearance quite different from the current models of the transalpine manufacturer.

Still, the elegant lines of this model — which “lives” naturally only in the digital world — are easily identifiable as being of an “Alpha”. And it all starts at the front, which recovers the themes of the Giulia coupés (Serie 105/115) from the 60s.

In other words, a single front opening where you can find not only the pair of circular headlamps, now in LED, but also the typical scudetto of the Arese brand.

The inspiration from the past continues on the side, which abandons the more contemporary wedge profile and recovers the low backs that were common at the time. Also the shoulder line and heavily muscled fenders are reminiscent of the first GTA (derived from the Giulia of the time).

At the back, the torn luminous signature also catches the eye, as does the air diffuser, perhaps the most contemporary part of this imagined Alfa Romeo GTS.

For this project, which has no official connection with the Italian brand, Guilherme Araujo made no reference to the mechanics that could serve as a basis, but the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 510 hp that powers the Giulia Quadrifoglio seems to be us a good choice, don't you think?
