Ford closes Valencia plant to prevent Covid-19 expansion

The three-day break will be longer. Faced with the spread of Covid-19, the direction of the Ford factory in Almussafes, Valencia (Spain), decided, during this weekend, to close the factory for the entire next week.

In a statement, Ford said that this decision will be evaluated during the week and the next steps will be decided. The topic will be debated this Monday at a meeting previously called with the unions.

Three infected employees

Three positive cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Ford Valencia operations in the last 24 hours. According to the brand, the protocol established at the factory was followed quickly, including the identification and isolation of all employees in contact with infected colleagues.

In a statement, Ford assures that it will take measures to ensure the reduction of the risk arising from this situation.

More factories in the same situation

In Martorell (Spain), the Volkswagen Group has closed the factory where SEAT and Audi models are produced. Also in Italy, Ferrari and Lamborghini have already suspended production.

In Portugal, there are Volkswagen Autoeuropa workers demanding the suspension of production, citing the risk of contagion. To date, at the Palmela plant no case of Covid-19 has been registered.
