PSP press release: Lisbon Half Marathon affects traffic

The Public Security Police released in a statement, the traffic restrictions resulting from the 25th Lisbon International Half Marathon. Among other arteries, on the 22nd of March the 25th of April Bridge will be closed.

As part of the “25th International Lisbon Half Marathon”, which takes place on March 22, 2015, organized by MARATONA CLUBE DE PORTUGAL, the PSP's Lisbon Metropolitan Command informs that there will be traffic restrictions in several arteries of the city of Lisbon . Thus, on March 21 (Saturday), as part of the “25th International Lisbon Half Marathon” event, the following conditionings will be carried out according to the respective sporting events:

• 9:30 am – “Corrida Vitalis” (7,000 meters) – Concentration and Departure, next to the National Stadium – Praça da Marathon, heading towards Cruz Quebrada, Av. da Índia – Target installed in the Largo Street of Praça do Império.

• 11:30 am – “Passeio Avós e Netos” (4,000 meters) – Concentration next to the Electricity Museum. After the departure, follow Av. Brasília to the Alcântara viaduct, turn right, continue along the river and return to the Electricity Museum.

• 4:00 pm – “Mini Champions Race” (1,500 meters). Concentration in front of the Electricity Museum, continue along the garden area until close to Cordoaria Nacional and return to the starting point.

• From 23:00 on Saturday until 17:00 on Sunday – Closure of Av. Da Índia, from the metallic viaducts of Alcântara, to the viaducts of Pedrouços, next to the Champalimaud Foundation – Transit diversion to Av. Brasília.

On March 22 (Sunday), scheduled to start at 10:30 am, there will be a Sports Test called “25th INTERNATIONAL LISBON HALF MARATHON”. This race has two simultaneous starts, being the “25th International Lisbon Half Marathon” and the “Mini Marathon” starting from the 25 de Abril Bridge. This event has the presence of about 35,000 participants, including elite athletes and wheelchairs, with the need to make the following traffic cuts:

• From 8:00 am to 3:00 pm – next to the Algés CP Station, with the closure of Av. Marginal to Alto da Boa Viagem;

• 9:00 am – Closing of Praça do Império;

• 9:00 am – Closing of the 25 de Abril Bridge in both directions (expected opening after 13:00);

• 9:15 am – A-5 highway, connecting to the bridge;

• 9:15 am – IP7 (North/South axis), bridge direction (cut at the last exit to Monsanto);

• 9:15 am – Avenida de Ceuta, access to the bridge;

• 9:40 am – Access to Avenida 24 de Julho;

• 9:40 am – Cais do Sodré;

Trams, as well as traffic in general, will no longer pass in front of Jerónimos from 9:00 am (Sunday) – trams reverse at Pasteis de Belém, on their return to Praça do Comércio, becoming inoperative towards Algés. During the conditioning, there will be police elements to carry out the diversion of traffic, informing the drivers' alternatives.
