The Opel Insignia GSi can now be ordered in Portugal. Like the other Insignia, the GSi is also available in the Grand Sport and Sports Tourer bodies — saloon and van, respectively — and also allows you to choose between a petrol engine and a diesel engine.
Starting precisely with the diesel version, under the bonnet we find the 2.0 BiTurbo D, and as the name implies, with two turbos, capable of delivering 210 hp and 480 Nm available as early as 1500 rpm. It reaches 100 km/h in 7.9 s and reaches a maximum speed of 231 km/h. Official consumptions (NEDC cycle) are 7.3 l/100 km and CO2 emissions are 192 g/km. The price starts at 66 330 euros for the saloon and 67 680 euros for the van.
You save 11 thousand euros
Does Diesel seem too expensive? Alternatively you have the petrol Opel Insignia GSi 2.0 Turbo. Prices start at practically 11 thousand euros below, at 55 680 euros, gaining 50 hp and losing 90 kg of ballast.
The 2.0 Turbo engine delivers 260 hp and 400 Nm , available between 2500 and 4000 rpm. The 100 km/h is reached in 7.3 seconds and the maximum speed rises to 250 km/h. Naturally, consumption is higher than Diesel — 8.6 l/100 km of mixed consumption and emissions of 197 g/km (199 for the Sports Tourer).
GSi is more than new engines
The difference between the GSi and the other Insignia is not just the engines. The styling is subtly more aggressive, noting the presence of new bumpers, side skirts and a more prominent rear spoiler.
Equally, both Insignia GSi feature four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. . And of course, dynamically, the Insignia GSi received particular attention.
The Twinster all-wheel drive system allows for torque vectoring, independently controlling the rotation speed of each wheel, eliminating unwanted understeer. Brakes come from Brembo — discs 345 millimeters in diameter, with four-piston calipers. The wheels are 20 inches and the tires are the very tight Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S.
The FlexRide chassis features multiple driving modes, changing the operating parameters of the dampers, steering, accelerator pedal and gearbox. The suspension is piloted and, to top it off, the springs are shorter, reducing ground clearance by 10 mm.
The chassis's effectiveness was demonstrated by the 12-second reduction in lap time on the Nürburgring compared to its predecessor, the more powerful Insignia OPC.
