Is the best Porsche 718 yet to come? Of course (aspirated) yes

The Porsche 718, whatever the model or version, is an excellent sports car — Porsche doesn't know how to do it any other way. It's like the switch to opposing four-cylinder turbo engines in the 718 range, has pinched that perception into everyday use. Remember our first contact here.

But now that the present-generation Porsche 718 (982) is nearing its end of its cycle, it's time to raise the bar a little higher. Which is to say, it's time to launch the most special, most exclusive, most expensive and… noblest versions. One of these versions will be the Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder.

What is this sound?

The German brand called the engineers of the Porsche Motorsport department and gave them a mission: to develop the engine that will power the new Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder.

Hear this:

What about? Judging by the sound, it will be difficult for the new Porsche 718 Boxster Sypder to resort to a flat-four turbo engine. In its place, the Porsche Motorsport boys may have put the fantastic flax-six 4.0 liter atmospheric engine that powers the 911 GT3 and GT3 RS.

We don't know if the idea will go into production or not, but even if it does, it is not expected that the new Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder will reach the 500 hp of power that we find in its older brothers. It will be a less vitaminized version for sure.

One of my dream cars: the Porsche Boxster Spyder (987).

As for the possibility of this Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder resorting to the 3.0 Turbo flat-six engine of the 911 (991.2) is very small. Despite the smaller cubic capacity, this 3.0 Turbo engine is larger than the engine of the 911 GT3/GT3 RS due to the presence of turbos, therefore more difficult to assemble in the chassis of the 718.

Soon all our doubts will be replaced by certainties. The Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder is expected to be unveiled later this year.
