Formula 1. The return of Alfa Romeo is already in 2018

Anonim

Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team is the official name of the new team that marks the Italian brand's return to Formula 1. Alfa Romeo and the Swiss team Sauber have established a commercial and technical partnership with the aim of participating in the Formula 1 World Championship as early as next season, in 2018.

The scope of the partnership refers to strategic, commercial and technological cooperation in all areas of development, which includes access to the skills and technical personnel belonging to the Italian brand's engineering.

From 2018 onwards, we will already be able to see Sauber's single-seaters with a new decoration, which will incorporate the colors and logo of Alfa Romeo.

This agreement with the Sauber F1 Team is a significant step in the reshaping of Alfa Romeo, which will return to Formula 1 after an absence of more than 30 years. A historic brand that helped make the sport's history will join the other manufacturers participating in Formula 1.

Sauber has been using Ferrari engines since 2010. This new partnership with the “scudetto” brand does not technically mean the end of Ferrari engines. Predictably, Alfa Romeo engines will effectively be engines supplied by Ferrari.

Alfa Romeo in Formula 1

Alfa Romeo, despite the absence of more than 30 years, has a rich past in the sport. Even before Formula 1 was called Formula 1, Alfa Romeo was the undisputed champion in the Grand Prix world championship. In 1925, the Type 2 GP dominated the first world championship.

The Italian brand was present in Formula 1 between 1950 and 1988, either as a manufacturer or as an engine supplier. Alfa Romeo secured two drivers' titles in 1950 and 1951, with Nino Farina and one Juan Manuel Fangio as drivers. Between 1961 and 1979 he supplied engines to several teams, returning as a manufacturer in 1979, achieving in 1983 his best ranking with a 6th place in the manufacturers' championship.

After the acquisition of the brand by Fiat, Alfa Romeo would abandon Formula 1 in 1985. Its return, as Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team, is scheduled for 2018.
