Chris Harris, a Porsche 911, a lot of power and little asphalt

Anonim

Chris Harris is a self-confessed fan of the Porsche 911. And it seems that he has now been given over to a rally version that suffers from an allergy to asphalt. A creation by Richard Tuthill for the RGT category.

The Porsche 911 is best known as an asphalt devourer, a frequent presence in the most varied GT championships, but over the 5 decades of the iconic sports car's existence, there was no floor that the 911 did not touch in competition. The 911 made a career in the world rally championships during the 1960s, and even attacked dunes on its way to Dakar in 1984.

The FIA, not so long ago, created the RGT category, which opened the doors to the participation of rear-wheel-drive sports cars in the rally sections. The prospect of watching the return of rear-wheel drive cars attacking – more from the side than from the front… – any section of gravel is enough to make any fan of the sport salivate. Unfortunately, the RGT category did not capture the interest of builders. Exception made to Lotus which approved a version of Exige for this category.

It has been, above all, the initiative of private individuals to feed this category. Chris Harris went to meet one of these brave enthusiasts. Richard Tuthill acquired a Porsche 911 Cup (generation 997) and began the onerous process of adapting and approving it for the RGT category. And nothing better than a piece of gravel for our favorite simian, Chris Harris, to verify the validity of the formula.

Lack of grip, along with needy trees looking for a tight 'hug' and a constantly moving steering wheel are the ingredients that make this experience one of the most exciting any driving enthusiast can aspire to. The video is in English and has no subtitles. As a bonus, we replay an older video where Chris Harris travels to Sweden for an animated session on ice driving at the controls of an aging but available Porsche 911.
