The renewed Volkswagen Golf arrived in Portugal a few weeks ago, and will now be available with the new 1.5 TSI engine.

As planned, Volkswagen has just expanded the range of engines from the Golf range to the brand new 1.5 TSI Evo . A new generation engine, which debuts the latest technologies of the "German giant".

It is a 4-cylinder unit with an active cylinder management system (ACT), 150 HP of power and a variable geometry turbo – a technology that is currently only present in two other Volkswagen Group models, the Porsche 911 Turbo and 718 Cayman S.

cutting edge technology

Goodbye 1.4 TSI, hello 1.5 TSI! From the previous 1.4 TSI block nothing is left. Power values remain similar but there have been notable gains in driving efficiency and pleasantness. Compared to 1.4 TSI, for example, internal engine friction has been reduced through a variable oil pump and a first polymer-coated crankshaft bearing.

Furthermore, this new 1.5 TSI engine is characterized by an injection pressure that can reach 350 bar. Another of the details of these engines is the more efficient indirect intercooler – with better cooling performance. Temperature-sensitive components, such as the butterfly valve, are downstream of the intercooler, optimizing its operating temperature.

Last but not least, the new engine features an innovative thermal management system with a new cooling map. APS (Atmospheric Plasma Thermal Protection) coated cylinders and a cylinder head cross-flow cooling concept are specifically used for this 150hp TSI engine.

New generation of the ACT system

When driving with the engine rotating between 1,400 and 4,000 rpm (at speeds up to 130 km/h) the Active Cylinder Management (ACT) imperceptibly shuts off two of the four cylinders, depending on the load on the throttle.

In this way, fuel consumption and emissions are significantly reduced.

Thanks to this technological source, Volkswagen claims very interesting values: the consumption (in NEDC cycle) of the versions with manual transmission is only 5.0 l/100 km (CO2: 114 g/km). Values go down to 4.9 l/100 km and 112 g/km with the 7-speed DSG transmission (optional). Know more about this engine here.

Golf 1.5 TSI prices for Portugal

The new Volkswagen Golf 1.5 TSI is available from the Comfortline equipment level, with 6-speed manual transmission or 7-speed DSG (optional). The entry price is €27,740 , starting in the €28,775 for the Golf Variant 1.5 TSI version.

In the base version (Trendline Pack, 1.0 TSI 110 hp), the German model is proposed in our country by €22,900.
