Alpina's B5 anticipates BMW's M5

Alpina prepares to unveil at the Geneva Motor Show the new B5 based on the new BMW 5 Series. The B5 anticipates, for months, the presentation of the new M5, its potential rival.

We are still months away from knowing the new BMW M5, but Alpina has practically completed the development of its new machine based on the 5 series (G30), the B5. The brand presented a video where we can see the future model in tests (or is it fun?) in the snow.

The predecessor, based on the F10/F11 generation, ended its career with a special version, called Edition 50, to commemorate Alpina's birthday. The 4.4 liter V8 twin turbo provided 600 hp, and not being electronically castrated, reached a top speed of 328 km/h. We can look at the B5 as a more luxurious and grand tourer philosophy version than the M5.

The high performance of the B5 will be a certainty. And as with its predecessor, the B5 will have to add a van to the saloon, something that the M5 does not always provide.

NOT TO BE MISSED: Special. The big news at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show

We can look at the Alpinas as the work of a preparer, with a range of BMW-based products. But since 1983, Alpina has been considered a car manufacturer, recognized by the German Ministry of Transport The Alpina have their own brand and are registered as such, with their own VIN (vehicle identification number). Every year, between 1200 and 1700 vehicles leave its facilities.
