BMW 1 Series Sedan in Europe? It is not right.

It was one of the most anticipated models last year. And as such, the news that it would only be sold on the Chinese market did not please everyone.

More recently, there were again rumors that the BMW 1 Series Sedan was taken for granted in Europe. Something that is not totally unreasonable, looking at the offer of rivals Ingolstadt (Audi A3 Limousine) and Stuttgart (Mercedes-Benz CLA). But as for the Series 1 Sedan, unfortunately, it's just that… rumors.

If, when it comes to architecture, BMW gave the «arm to cheer» and opted for the most common solution – transverse engine and front-wheel drive, here you know why – when it comes to bodywork derivations, BMW does not want to go after the competition. According to Autocar, one of the fears of the Munich brand is that a possible success of the Sedan version of the 1 Series in the «old continent» could cannibalize the sales of the models in the above segment.

Unveiled last month at the Shanghai Motor Show, the new Series 1 sedan is produced in China (in partnership with Brilliance). Its technical base will allow, in the more powerful versions, to make available the xDrive all-wheel drive system. A feature that should not differ from the new generation of the European BMW 1 Series, which is already in the testing phase but should only reach the European market in 2019.
