After the BMW M3 E92 prepared by the RS Racing Team, becoming a competition machine with a still remarkable success, without wasting time decided, with the new BMW M235i, to create its other track machine.
The RS Racing Team managed to gather in one machine, an authentic multi-purpose “track tool”. Starting from a conventional M235i, the RS racing team was able to create a model according to any customer's specifications, without this representing a limitation to the infinite tuning for competition.
But let's find out what specific cocktail was cooked in this RS M235i. Let's start in the interior, by the way one of the places that includes the least orthodox solutions. We already know that in the world of competition everything counts and every gram can make the difference. When this concern is taken to an extreme and unconventional materials are used, in this case we are faced with healthy lunatics whose sole objective is to break times.
One of those exotic features of the RS M235i are the mats made of bitumen. The mats are made from the same synthetic material extracted from crude oil and used to produce tar, all made with fibers, solely and exclusively to save weight. The GP Race competition drumsticks have 6 support belts fixed in an equally complex 6 support roll cage. Seat belts and door linings are made of carbon fiber. Don't forget, diet is an essential rule here, but without forgetting safety. For example, the fire extinguisher is included under the passenger drumstick.
For the combination of rims and tyres, we have 18-inch wheels from BBS or ATS. With an array of colors “to the taste of the customer”, the rims are “lined” with Michelin semi-slick tyres. For wet roads, the offer is on road tires with measurements comprising 225mm in width or 245mm.
One of the solutions that might seem obvious in this preparation would be for the RS M235i to come equipped with center stud wheels, but no. Instead of this solution often used in competition, we have the traditional 5 pins.
The remaining dynamics of the RS M235i include a suspension with KW clubsport coilovers. And of course, a self-respecting track car must be able to come to a standstill efficiently: flexible steel mesh brake tubes and a set of Ferodo racing pads are part of the offering on this RS M235i.
In the aerodynamic chapter, the hood of the RS M235i received two fixing pins and the front grilles were optimized to drain more air towards the front discs. The finishing touch is a beautiful GFK carbon “GT-style” wing mounted on aluminum arms.
To prepare this RS M235i for the extra effort on track, both the engine and gearbox received improved support. The exhaust, designed by Supersprint, has various configurations, resulting in different power levels. The electronically limited maximum speed can be unlocked.
The technical specifications are surprising in numbers: at just 1290kg, the RS M235i produces 420 horsepower at 5800rpm and a maximum torque of 450Nm at 4500rpm. The performance translates to 4.1s from 0 to 100km/h, with the top speed limited to 250km/h, but with the option of being able to be unlocked.
As optional equipment, the RS racing team provides for the RS M235i, a fire extinguishing system with control from the interior or remote, a radiator for the differential oil (with temperature gauge), power cut with interior or remote control , among many more items, ready to satisfy customers' demand for the ultimate track machine.
The base price of the RS M235i is €57,800, including 19% VAT in Germany. The access version can be used on public roads, but depending on the optional equipment installed, it may not be legal anymore.
