The Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 presents itself as the first Plug-in Hybrid (PEHV) from the house of Sant’Agata Bolognese. Prototype for now.
The Asterion is the best example of the Lamborghini philosophy: "Hybrid? It can be, but it doesn't lack power" . The name denounces the value, and yes, there are 910hp that are transmitted to the 4 wheels. Lamborghini claims 3 seconds of 0-100km/h and 320 km/h top speed.
Numbers can give wings to imagination and we barely realize it, we imagine this hybrid facing La Ferrari or McLaren P1. Make no mistake, this is not the vocation of this study by Lamborghini. The Asterion aims to be a sports car with Grand Tourer trends, even though it has a mid-engine, and even though it has a super-sports 910 hp power.
All the power of the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 is the result of the joint effort of the 5.2L V10 engine and the three electric motors, powered by lithium batteries, which contribute 300hp to the final balance. The use in exclusively electrical mode is also possible. The maximum speed in this mode is 125 km/h, and the autonomy is a modest 50 km. The result, in terms of consumption, is something more similar to a city car than to a super sports car: 4.12 l for every 100 km traveled, and CO2 emissions that are around 98g/km.
As for the Asterion's design, the exterior is surprising, being clearly demarcated from the Italian house's latest cars. The Asterion is taller, has larger doors and a more spacious interior, all in the interest of improved accessibility and comfort. Inside, a mixture of materials and tones is used that gives the minimalist interior a more luxurious than sporty character.
As for the name, it can be said that it reflects the car's personality. Asterion is the name of a mythical minotaur, half man, half bull, similar to the pair of 'species' engines that endow this Lamborghini. As for the rest of the designation, the acronym LPI, which replaces the already known LP, means Longitudinale Posteriore Ibrido
