Who is Jost Capito? Jost Capito is «only» one of the most influential engineers in the automotive industry of the last 30 years.
Despite having made a career below the «radars» of the general public, Jost Capito was the «father» (read responsible) of models as iconic as the first generation of the Ford Focus RS (in the highlighted image). Model that served as the basis for the version that won the World Rally Championship.
During his time at Ford (almost a decade), in addition to being one of the workers in the success of the Ford Focus WRC, Capito still had time to help in the development of models such as the Fiesta ST, SVT Raptor and Shelby GT500 – not to forget the aforementioned Focus RS MK1. After leaving Ford, Jost Capito took over as director of Volkswagen Motorsport in 2012, leading the German brand to win three consecutive titles in the World Rally Championship. In 2016 he left Volkswagen to take over as CEO of McLaren Racing.
Like any good son, Jost Capito returned to Volkswagen again. This time, he will not take over the reins of Volkswagen Motorsport, but rather the performance department of the German brand.
