One of the most eagerly awaited hot-hatch of recent times will be present at the Auto Show in Porto. It will be the first time that the new Honda Civic Type R will be on display on national soil, anticipating its arrival on the market this summer.
More powerful and more dynamic
It is worth remembering the technical source of the new Japanese machine. The Honda Civic Type R uses its predecessor's thruster and gearbox, but the numbers have grown – it's now 320 horsepower, while maintaining the previous generation's 400 Nm of torque. Besides, everything is new… everything!The new Civic bases its technical base on a 38% stiffer platform, a characteristic that increases the driving feeling and favors suspension work. Speaking of suspensions, it should be remembered that the new Civic uses a multilink independent rear suspension scheme. Therefore, significant dynamic improvements are to be expected.
Proof of the effectiveness of the new chassis was the achievement of the record for "fastest front wheel drive on the Nürburgring". A feat that was not exempt from some controversy, with some voices protesting against the possible modifications made by the brand for the Type R to achieve this «cannon» time. Controversy aside, will this record hold much longer now that the Renault Megane RS is almost upon us?
There's more to life than the Type-R
With the focus all on the Honda Civic Type R, the other Hondas present in the show could go unnoticed. Even so, the Japanese brand will take to this exhibition in the north of the country, the remaining Civic range – which is already on sale – and which uses 1.0 VTEC Turbo, three-cylinder and 129 horsepower, and 1.5 VTEC Turbo, four-cylinder engines and 182 horses. Honda HR-V, CR-V and Jazz will also be present.
