Mercedes-Benz Vision Gcode: a vision of the future

Mercedes believes that there are still market niches to be explored. From this belief, the Mercedes Vision Gcode was born, a futuristic vision of a “new” sub-segment: the SUC (Sport Utility Coupé). A crossover with reduced dimensions and sporty design.

With counter-opening doors – commonly called suicide doors – and a lot of style in the mix, Mercedes hopes to attract new customers to the brand with an eventual model derived from the Vision Gcode. A concept designed at the Mercedes Product Engineering Center in Beijing, which aims to gain insight into local cultures and trends.

Designed to erect a Plug-In Hybrid engine with long-range electric range ideal for Asian mega-cities. The Vision Gcode will use an electronic all-wheel drive system designed for on- and off-road use without compromising dynamics.

This new Mercedes concept will have the configuration of a 2+2 and a length of 4.10m, 1.90m in width and just 1.5m in height. But what makes this SUC really special is its new, somewhat emotive front grille, which when parked the new Gcode will display a static blue color grille.

While driving, in Hybrid eDrive mode the grille remains blue but takes on a wave-like movement; in Mixed Hybrid mode the movement remains but the color changes to purple; in Hybrid Sport mode the movement reverses and the color changes to a bright red. All for style.

The engine is cooled by air deflection thanks to the side and lower openings in the front grille. All the lighting is in charge of LED technology and the mirrors are no longer needed as this function is in charge of two cameras.

The interior is a place worthy of a sci-fi movie. A simple but extremely functional cockpit where the pedals and steering wheel are retractable, and since this is a concept, futuristic ideas are not lacking.

A large multimedia screen extends across the dashboard, which allows you to view everything and anything else. Gcode's ignition is also done via your smartphone, reason more than enough to never lose it, otherwise you'll have to walk home.

In short, a concept that gives us a very positive vision about the brand's future plans and, above all, a message of confidence and work capacity to the brand's development team in China.
