Spiritual heir of the BMW M3 (E36) and M3 (E46), the BMW M2 Competition was put to the test against its ancestors in a drag race that is nothing more than a clash of generations between models that share not only the brand, but also the fact that they have a manual gearbox and an in-line six-cylinder engine.

On the side of the BMW M2 Competition, it has 3.0 l, two turbos and offers 410 hp that are sent to the rear wheels through a manual transmission. Despite being a modern car, this one manages to keep the balance at a not very high 1550 kg.

As for the BMW M3 (E36) from 1994 that opposes it, this one sees its six cylinders in atmospheric line with 3.0 l deliver about 300 hp, a figure higher than the original 286 hp thanks to some improvements in terms of the ECU and of a new exhaust. Target for a slimming cure, it weighs around 1400 kg and has a manual gearbox with five ratios.

Finally, the BMW M3 (E46) is a 2005 exemplar with a six-speed manual gearbox, an atmospheric in-line six cylinder with 3.2 l that originally debited 343 hp whose task was to drive 1570 kg. However, according to our host, Mat Watson at Carwow, a K&N air filter brought the power down to 340 hp.
