Red Bull wants to launch the «McLaren F1» of the 21st century

The idea is no longer new, but it gained prominence again this week. Red Bull continues to think about launching a production model.

Enzo Ferrari, the historic founder of the horse rampant brand, when he founded Ferrari in 1928, did not plan to produce road models. It was only two decades later, in 1947, that Ferrari eventually launched its first road model, the V12 125S, with the purpose of financing its sporting activity. Four decades later, it was Mclaren's turn to take the same path by launching the iconic Mclaren F1 in 1990, but with another purpose: to mark an era, launching a road car as close as possible to a Formula 1 single-seater. Mission accomplished.

Returning to the present, it is Red Bull that intends to repeat Mclaren's recipe. Last weekend, Red Bull Racing director Christian Horner, in an interview with Autocar, once again mentioned the possibility of launching a road super sports car in the future, with the technical signature of Adrian Newey. According to Horner, the designer intends to leave a unique model, with the best available technology and a striking and timeless design, as a legacy for future generations.

It wouldn't be the first time that Red Bull has ventured on the road, between traffic lights and turn signals. But after McLaren's recent out-of-competition success in road models, it's possible that Dieter Mateschitz, owner of Red Bull, always looking for new paths, will opt for the same recipe. We hope so.
