Start/Stop Engine of the new Volkswagen Golf will shut down in progress

Last week, Volkswagen presented the new update for the seventh generation of the Golf, which, as we have advanced, presents four major new features. One of them is precisely the debut of the 1.5 TSI engine family, which replaces the “old” 1.4 TSI and will be available for now in versions with 130 hp and 150 hp of power.

But the main novelty of this engine – in the 130 hp BlueMotion variant – is perhaps the new Start/Stop system , which works even when the car is moving, at any speed. According to Volkswagen, as soon as the driver takes his foot off the accelerator, the engine is turned off, which should allow a reduction in consumption of up to 1 l/100 km.

All of this is only possible thanks to the electrification of auxiliary systems – assisted steering, braking and other on-board equipment – which thus no longer depend directly on the engine. How is it processed? As soon as we let go of the accelerator the gearbox is automatically in N, that is, disengaged (going sailing) in order to take advantage of the vehicle's inertia, something that already happens. The novelty comes next: in the new Volkswagen Golf the engine will also be switched off. This system will only be available on models equipped with an automatic transmission.

And when do we press the accelerator again?

As with any other Start/Stop system, one of the concerns that this system may raise is the fact that, in an emergency or the need to suddenly increase speed, the engine will not be able to react immediately. For now, it is not known what the reaction time will be from the moment we press the accelerator to the effective response of the engine, something that we will be able to clarify as soon as we have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the new Volkswagen Golf.
