Audi R8 electric «bipolar»: after further details the model has been suspended.

The news comes after several incidents related to the Audi R8 electric (E-tron), which lead to believe that this super sports car may never step on the production line, despite Audi releasing more information about this model.

After the suspension of development of the Audi R8 electric in October 2012 and although the German brand continues to reveal details of this super electric, we are forced to believe that it will most likely not be produced.

It was supposed to have been launched at the end of 2012, a fact that did not happen and that the brand has apparently ignored and turned into a “non-issue”. The electric sports car that broke the Nürburgring record (for production trams) and apparently had a promising future, seems to be doomed to be a source of study rather than pleasure.

The suspension of production of the model was announced by a responsible for the German brand, who says that 10 cars have already been produced and are still being evaluated internally. The move away from production, he says, is due to the fact that the existing technology in terms of battery capacity is still insufficient, and its development is fundamental for a decisive start in the production of electric models – at issue is the autonomy of the batteries.

The Audi R8 Electric (R8 E-tron) has lithium-ion batteries of 48.6 kWh and two electric motors that combined can produce 381 hp and 820 nm of torque. This very interesting power allows the Audi R8 Electric to complete the sprint from 0-100 in 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed, electronically limited, of 200 km/h. Along with an above-average performance is a battery autonomy of 215 km.
