The new Discovery is one of the first models to benefit from the new Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) facility in Coventry, UK.

Land Rover had already promised that it wanted to end aftermarket modifications and soon, anyone who wants to make the most of the SUV's off-road capabilities will have the help of the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) technical center.

Judging by the statements of John Edwards, responsible for the SVO, the new model will be something special. “I can't say what the Discovery SVO version will be like, but in my mind it will be something between a Paris Dakar model and a Camel Trophy. Somewhere in between is a product waiting to be launched,” he says.

In the new Discovery (standard), available with engines between 180 hp (2.0 Diesel) and 340 hp (3.0 V6 petrol), Land Rover managed to save 480 kg compared to the previous model. The SVO version may undergo chassis modifications and receive protections for the bodywork and off-road tires, among other modifications.

As for the name, it is speculated that SVX may be the name adopted, not only for the new Discovery but also for all off-road versions of the Land Rover SVO. The new model should be presented next year.
