Lamborghini doesn't rule out the idea of a hybrid Urus

After having contemplated us with the Urus, Lamborghini is already thinking about making a hybrid version of the fastest SUV on the planet.

The lifecycle of the Lamborghini Urus is already drawing some sharpness on the horizon. It seems that the Sant’Agata Bolognese brand wants to make a hybrid version of its high-performance SUV.

It is no coincidence that Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini, recently stated that Urus will pursue a “one car, one engine” strategy that could change the future. In other words, despite the 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 being the brand's priority, a hybrid system is also being developed in parallel.

The bad news is that the hybrid Urus has yet to see the green light for the production lines – the weight issue remains to be resolved. Adding one more engine and batteries to Urus means an increase of 200kg on the scale which, according to Maurizio Reggiani, Research and Development Director of the Italian brand, completely changes the weight distribution and DNA of Urus.

The solution would be more carbon fiber, more magnesium, more titanium and…more price. A hybrid Urus “as it should be” would cost 1.5 million dollars. It can not be. So much so that it won't be until this issue is optimized.

Although the Urus is structurally compatible to accommodate the batteries in the ideal position, the market may not yet be ready to receive a high-performance hybrid car. BMW shares the same opinion. Technology has yet to give us more proof of itself.
