Between the BMW M2 (2018), M3, M4 and M5, which will be the ultimate M machine for driving lovers? It's one of the answers we'll try to find in this video. Faced with such big names, the new BMW M2 Competition does not shame the family. Quite the contrary… the smallest of the M is more powerful and dynamic than ever.
With the World Car Awards in the background, Guilherme had the opportunity to test first hand the BMW M2 Competition, a more in-depth evolution of the M2 than one might think at first.
This is because the M2 Competition dispensed with the M2 engine (which also ceased to be marketed), starting to use the BMW M4 engine, albeit in a less powerful version.
Why the engine change? Four letters: WLTP. Instead of evolving the M2 engine, the N55, BMW turned to the M4's inline six-cylinder, the S55, already prepared to meet the most stringent test cycle and emission standards — why two engines to do the same job ?

If the WLTP has been the death sentence for some high-performance models, such as the Ford Focus RS, in this case we win. The new BMW M2 Competition delivers 40 hp and 85 Nm more than the M2. culminating in 410 hp and 550 Nm , sent only and only to the rear wheels, via a manual gearbox or a double clutch, like the unit tested by Guilherme.
Not only do we have a stronger heart, but the M2 Competition has received a number of improvements in several departments. Like the “brothers” M3 and M4, the new BMW M2 Competition will also feature a “U” anti-approach bar in carbon fiber, which, with a weight of just 1.4 kg, helps ensure greater directional accuracy.
The chassis also gained several suspension elements in aluminum and forged aluminum, elements also imported from the M3 and M4.
"It's my favorite"
Is the BMW M2 Competition the best M today? It is an excellent candidate, definitely, when it combines excellent performances — 4.2s in 0 to 100 km/h (DTC), 280 km/h top speed with “Driver's Package” — with excellent dynamic skills, at the same time being challenging, really obliging us to… lead it so that we can make the best use of its full potential.
You might disagree, but the M2 Competition undoubtedly won Guilherme's affection, after having already conducted all the M's today, categorically stating “It's my favorite”. The hardware reinforcement also makes it more prepared than ever to face models like the Mercedes-AMG A 45 4MATIC, Audi RS3 and why not… Porsche 718 Cayman.
