Italian publication Quattroroute has just published a very convincing rendering of the future Mercedes GT AMG.
The Mercedes GT AMG is, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated models ever from the German brand. Why? Because in decades of history, Mercedes has never declared open war on its neighbor Porsche – both share the city of Stuttgart as their headquarters.
The varnish cracked when Mercedes announced that the AMG GT will compete directly with the Porsche 911. In other words: the target is deliberately the so far "untouchable" Porsche 911. Never before has Mercedes crossed itself in this way in Porsche's path. This dispute is almost reminiscent – due to the geographical proximity of the brands – the rivalries of the 2nd Circular, between Benfica and Sporting. With so much rivalry at stake, it's no wonder that several publications try to predict the end result of Mercedes' onslaught on Porsche's goal, followed by weekly news about the future Mercedes GT AMG. Now it was the turn of the Italian publication Quattroroute to present its vision of the anti-911 future (in the pictures).
For this rendering, Quattroute was inspired by the photographs of the “test mules” of the GT AMG and by the brand's new stylistic language. The result is what you can see in the photos. A compact coupé, with aggressive lines, inspired by the Mercedes SLS and with the «air» of someone who has a huge desire to annihilate Porsche 911s for breakfast.
As for technical data, the new M177 engine is expected for the Mercedes GT AMG, a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, with a power that should be around 460 to 500 horsepower. Mercedes will be able to present the final version as early as next March in Geneva.
