Just over a month before the Geneva Motor Show, the Bavarian brand has unveiled the first images of the new BMW 5 Series Touring (G31).

Promised is due. After we've seen the seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series (G30), which hits the European markets this month, it's time for the van variant, the version BMW 5 Series Touring (G31).

Like the saloon, BMW's executive van is also based on the new CLAR platform, and therefore benefits from all its improvements in dynamic terms: a stiffer suspension and a weight reduction of close to 100 kg (depending on the engine).

The German van maintains the overall look of the Series 5 (G30) – wider front section, new bumpers, redesigned light signature – and inside, apart from the extra space for occupants and luggage, it's all the same – with highlight for the Remote 3D View system that allows the driver to visualize the surrounding area of the vehicle through a mobile application, among others.

In this more familiar version, the BMW 5 Series Touring (G31) essentially adds versatility . Luggage capacity is now 570 liters (with the rear seats folded down this rises to 1,700 liters) and supports an additional 120 kg of cargo. Speaking of the luggage compartment, the opening and closing of the tailgate can be done automatically (hands free).

In terms of performance, the 540i version is where the Series 5 Touring is best expressed. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is achieved in 5.1 seconds (0.3 seconds more than the limousine), before reaching 250 km/h of maximum speed (electronically limited).

The world presentation of the BMW 5 Series Touring (G31) is scheduled for the Geneva Motor Show, as early as next month, before its arrival in the European markets, which should take place in June. As for the M5 Touring, unfortunately BMW has no plans to bet on the sports variant.
