McLaren F1 will have no successor, says CEO of British brand

Mike Flewitt dismissed rumors suggesting the launch of a new three-seat sports car in 2018.

“People usually remember the things they liked, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the right thing to do right now. We love the McLaren F1, but we won't be producing another model like this.” That's how Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren, responded to rumors released last week by the British press.

Everything indicated that McLaren Special Operations (MSO) was working on the natural successor of the McLaren F1, a new “road-legal” sports car powered by a 3.8-liter V8 engine with 700 hp more power, which with the help of an engine electric would be capable of surpassing the 320 km/h of maximum speed.

Without wanting to directly comment on the rumors, the CEO of the brand was quite clear when saying that for now, the production of a model with these characteristics is not in sight.

“I am constantly asked this. Usually they ask me for a sports car with three seats, V12 engine and manual gearbox. But I don't think a car like that is good for business…”, said Mike Flewitt, on the sidelines of a meeting to discuss the company's financial results.
