Chevrolet Camaro: 516 hp and 1,416 Nm of torque... Diesel!

Is a diesel muscle car possible? Apparently so, and born in anti-Diesel territory: the United States of America.

Before lighting the torches and picking up the digital forks on social networks, know that there is a plausible reason why Nathan Mueller, the person responsible for this project, dared to equip a Chevrolet Camaro SS with a Diesel engine from a truck. That's right, from a truck.

NOT TO BE MISSED: Perforated, grooved or smooth discs. What is the best option?

The Chevrolet Camaro SS you see in the images was acquired at a public auction for a symbolic price. Reason? The 'friends of others' league subtracts the engine (a V8 6.3 LS3 with 432 hp) and the gearbox, leaving the other components to be abandoned. Faced with this deal, Nathan decided to do the improbable: create a Diesel muscle-car. I'm not fine, am I? But the result is even interesting.

The mechanical organ donor was none other than a Chevrolet Kodiak (truck version), which for years served as a bus at an airport. The problem was that the Duramax block – an eight-cylinder 6600cc turbodiesel – was much larger than the Camaro's original engine. Due to these incompatibilities, Nathan Mueller had to dedicate himself to the manufacture of handcrafted pieces to consummate the unlikely marriage between this one. engine that was born to work in a truck and ended up on the chassis of a sports car.

The result was a Camaro Diesel with 516 hp and a massive 1,416 Nm of maximum torque, thanks to a reprogrammed ECU and a larger turbo. After all these modifications, the total weight of the set rose to 2,100 kg. It's a lot for a sports car, true – a new generation Audi Q7 weighs less – but still, Nathan Mueller says the behavior is rigorous and fun.
