Volkswagen's new SUV targets the American market and the Chinese market.

Atlas was the name chosen by Volkswagen for its new SUV, a name that will be used exclusively in the American market, where the patent had already been registered at the beginning of the year. The German publication Automobilwoche says this, and although the news has not yet been confirmed by the German brand, several prototypes have been circulating in recent months.

Both aesthetically and mechanically, the new model is inspired by the Volkswagen CrossBlue Concept (in the images), presented at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2013, positioning itself between the Tiguan and the Touareg. The range of engines includes 4- and 6-cylinder TSi and 4-cylinder TDI blocks, with the help of the electric motors provided for this model.

The SUV will integrate the MQB platform and will be produced at the Chattanooga unit, in the USA. For now, it is only known that the focus is on the US and China market, with the Volkswagen Atlas in Europe being unlikely to be commercialized, which would happen through a new nomenclature - starting with the letter T, such as the Tiguan and the Touareg.
