The lucky ones from the German Sport Auto magazine have already had the privilege of getting their hands on the diesel of the moment: the new BMW M550d (more info. here).
The M550d will eventually be the sportiest diesel ever. If we forget about the marketing exercises that Audi did when it introduced the R8 TDI, a model that unfortunately would never be produced.
But check out the video made by Sport Auto. The new “diesel king” may even have an engine as melodious as an agricultural implement, but the truth is that it is capable of putting many gasoline engines of more aristocratic origins to shame – I won't mention names so as not to hurt feelings…
In fact, we are talking “only” about an engine capable of developing a constant 381hp and 740Nm from such low speeds as… idling! Numbers that make us believe that this model, even with a pleasure boat in tow, would be able to fulfill 0-100km/h in 5.7sec., just as it does without anything behind. Whatever fuel you use, BMW is to be congratulated! And for the next one invites us too…
