Successor to the Nissan 370Z will not be a crossover

Fans of the Japanese sports car can rest assured: contrary to rumors that have been advanced, the successor to the Nissan 370Z will not be a crossover.

In an interview with Motoring, Hiroshi Tamura from NISMO, guaranteed that the GripZ concept, a hybrid project presented at the last Frankfurt Motor Show (picture below), will not be the successor of the Nissan 370Z. According to Tamura, the only similarity between the two models will be the fact that they share the same platform and components in the production phase. Therefore, fans of this lineage can sleep well.

According to the brand, this way it will be possible to put into practice a cost reduction plan – even because sports cars like the 370Z are not properly profitable models in the current situation, unlike SUVs.

Hiroshi Tamura also suggested that the next generation “Z” will be less powerful, lighter and smaller. In addition, the price should be more competitive, lowering to values closer to competing models, such as the Ford Mustang.

Although no dates have been put forward, it is expected that the successor to the Nissan 370Z will only be introduced in 2018.
