Following yesterday's revelation that Mazda would re-produce the Wankel engine, the Mazda RX-Vision Concept is finally lifted. With very little information available, one thing is certain: an “RX-9” is being cooked and a Wankel will live under the bonnet.
It's been a busy week for Mazda, with the spirit of the brand being more present among fans than ever before. If a wankel engine was needed on the Mazda production line and that issue is being resolved, then a glimpse of a long-awaited successor to the Mazda RX-8 was missing. When in April 2015 we interviewed Ikuo Maeda, Mazda's global design director, this topic was already impossible to get around. In the interview Maeda had been clear: “an RX model is only RX if it has a Wankel”.

Little or nothing is known about the engine and no clues have been given as to the specs for this Mazda RX-Vision Concept. It is only known that it will have rear-wheel drive and from the interior images that the rev pointer reaches, at least, up to 8000 rpm. The fact that it has a manual gearbox lets us foresee a bright future.
Although this is just a vision of what Mazda envisions for its future, it is nonetheless gratifying for fans of the Japanese brand to see the efforts surrounding the creation of a new RX model, materialized in a concept.
Dear Mazda, with this special order being cooked at your factory in Hiroshima, all that remains is for us to ask: when will you serve us this dish?
