Volvo breaks sales record in Portugal and worldwide

The Swedish brand said goodbye to 2016 with a new world sales record and the best result ever in Portugal.

For the third year in a row, Volvo has set a new world record for annual sales. In 2016, the Swedish brand sold 534,332 units worldwide, representing a growth of 6.2% over the previous year. The best-selling model was the Volvo XC60 (161 thousand units), followed by the V40/V40 Cross Country (101,000 units) and the XC90 (91 thousand units).

This growth was seen in all regions, namely in Western Europe, with an increase in sales of 4.1%. In Portugal, growth was even greater (22.1% compared to the same period of the previous year), with the 4,363 registrations registered also setting a new annual record for the brand, with the national market share increasing to 2.10%.

In addition to technological development in the areas of autonomous driving, electrification and safety, 2016 was also marked by the launch of the S90 and V90. In 2017, the year Volvo celebrates its 90th anniversary, the Swedish brand once again sets a new world sales record.
