In this Polo renovation, Volkswagen's objective could not be clearer: to bring its SUV closer to its “big brother”, the Golf. In this way, it is no big surprise that the renewed Volkswagen Polo GTI it presents itself as a kind of “miniaturized” version of the eighth generation of the “father of hot hatch”.
Abroad, the changes carried out were the same as those found in the “normal” Polos. To distinguish this GTI version from the others, we have specific bumpers, several logos and a specific grille where the characteristic red stripe stands out, helping to make the rival of models like the Hyundai i20 N or Ford Fiesta ST more striking.
Inside, the look remained virtually unchanged, with the sports seats and red accents standing out. In this way, the main innovations on board the new Polo GTI arise in the field of technology.
Therefore, the Polo GTI magazine presents itself with a new infotainment system that is associated, as a series, with an 8” screen which, as an option, can grow to 9.2”. Among the main highlights of this new system are the possibility of saving driver profiles in the cloud and the wireless connection to the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems.
And mechanics?
In the mechanical chapter the Volkswagen Polo GTI remained faithful to the 2.0 l four-cylinder, however it saw the power rise from 200 hp to 207 hp. Torque remained at 320 Nm, which is sent to the front wheels exclusively by a seven-speed automatic DSG gearbox.

All this allows you to complete the traditional 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5s and reach an impressive 6.5s (0.2s less than until now) and reach 240 km/h (more 3 km/h than maximum speed than the pre-restyling version).

When it comes to corners, the renewed Polo GTI makes use of the electronic differential, a new stabilizer bar at the front and a suspension 15 mm lower than that used by the other Polos.
Finally, there is also the strengthening in the field of assistive technologies and driving assistance, with the “Travel Assist” system in its debut. Thus, we have equipment such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert System or the autonomous braking system.
For now, Volkswagen has yet to reveal the prices of the revised Polo GTI or an expected date for its launch.
