Porsche. "Tesla is not a reference for us"

Anonim

Porsche's 70th anniversary was marked by the announcement of a massive investment of six billion euros that promise to take the German brand into the electric age to come. These funds will allow the German brand to electrify a third of its range by 2022, launch two new 100% electric models and create a network of fast chargers.

The Mission E — production model name has yet to be confirmed — will be their first 100% electric car. Arriving in 2019, it promises much more than 600 hp in its most powerful version, all-wheel drive and accelerations capable of rivaling supersports, as the less than 3.5s of the 0-100 km/h predicted attest. The maximum range should approach 500 km.

Numbers that do not differ that much from the other high-performance electric sedan on the market: o Tesla Model S . But Porsche distances itself from these associations:

Tesla is not a reference for us.

To differentiate itself, Porsche mentions the loading times, which will be much faster than any other potential rival. Just 15 minutes will be enough to charge 80% of the battery when equipped with the 800 V electrical system , time that rises to 40 minutes when equipped with the regular 400 V system.

Despite Porsche's statements, comparisons will be inevitable with Tesla's Model S. However, knowing that the Porsche Mission E will be smaller than the Panamera, it will soon also be smaller than the Model S, and will have a much more dynamic focus — are these the reasons for Porsche's statements? The price of the future Mission E, however, is being matched by that of the larger Panamera.

Investments

The Porsche Mission E has already required an investment of 690 million in a new factory in Stuttgart, Germany, where it is headquartered. The objective will be to produce the new saloon at the rate of 20 thousand units per year.

The new platform, purposely developed for this purpose, will also serve as a crossover variant, which was anticipated by the Mission E Cross Turismo concept that we were able to see at the last Geneva Motor Show. The use of this new base will also give rise to at least one electric future for Audi (e-tron GT) and, most likely, for Bentley.

A portion of the six billion euros of investment will have the mission of making Porsche a leader in digital mobility in the premium segment. This includes building a fast charging network and developing connected services. Porsche expects the latter to generate 10% of the brand's revenue in the medium term, according to Lutz Meschke, vice president of the executive board.
