SEAT Ibiza renovated. Same on the outside but totally new on the inside

Launched in 2017, the current generation of SEAT Ibiza now receives a welcome update, with the great highlight of the same being in its interior, all of it profoundly remodeled.

On the outside, however, there are practically no differences. In addition to the LED headlamps becoming standard across the range (Full LED optional), the only new elements are the new cursive signature of the model on the trunk — introduced by the Tarraco and already adopted by the new Leon — and the logo of the SEAT, which now has two shades of chrome (glossy and matte). And, of course, there are also 17″ and 18″ redesigned wheels.

Returning to its interior, it is impossible not to notice the new dashboard. This assumes a disposition of its components similar to what we saw in the Leon, highlighting the positioning of the central ventilation outlets and the infotainment screen that appears inverted in relation to the Ibiza we used to know.

Thus, the touchscreen of the infotainment system — 8.25″ or 9.2″ — is now in a higher and more ergonomically correct position. Another difference for the Leon is the fact that the Ibiza still has physical controls for the climate control. There are also new circular ventilation outlets at the ends of the dashboard that can be lit (Xcellence and FR), as part of the ambient lighting.

The multifunction steering wheel is also new and receives a new coating in Nappa (Xcellence and FR), more pleasant to the touch. Speaking of coverings, these have also changed: there is a new material that is softer to the touch on the dashboard, and the seats also have new fabric coverings.

more technology

The renewed SEAT Ibiza also saw its technological arguments reinforced. Full Link technology — compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — is now wireless and infotainment has voice commands, for example.

In terms of driving assistants, the Ibiza can now have the Travel Assist (Travel Assist, which combines the action of adaptive cruise control with the lane assistant), that is, it now allows semi-autonomous driving (level 2 ). It also has the Lateral Assistant, Traffic Signal Recognition and Maximum Assistant.

Six driving options to choose from

In terms of engines, there are no surprises. In total there are six, with five of them gasoline and one bi-fuel, CNG (compressed natural gas) — Diesel engines were no longer part of the Ibiza and also the Arona last year. So we have the following engines:

  • 1.0 MPI — 80 hp and 93 Nm; 5-speed manual box;
  • 1.0 EcoTSI — 95 hp and 175 Nm; 5-speed manual box;
  • 1.0 EcoTSI — 110 hp and 200 Nm; 6-speed manual gearbox;
  • 1.0 EcoTSI — 110 hp and 200 Nm; 7 speed DSG (double clutch);
  • 1.5 EcoTSI — 150 hp and 250 Nm; 7 speed DSG (double clutch);
  • 1.0 TGI — 90 hp and 160 Nm; 6 speed manual box.
