The Geneva Motor Show is approaching and with it the world presentation of the Volvo XC60, a model that will debut three new safety systems.

Looking at the history of the Swedish brand, Volvo and safety they are undoubtedly two inseparable words. In addition to the safety systems present in the Volvo 90 Series, the Swedish brand is preparing to debut in the XC60 three new driving assistance systems.

One of them is precisely the City Safety system, which received an important update on the new XC60. In dangerous situations, where automatic braking alone is not enough to avoid a collision, this system takes care of the steering and helps to avoid obstacles, at speeds between 50 and 100 km/h.

Furthermore, Volvo has added to its range of technologies what it called Oncoming Lane Mitigation. This system works between 60 and 140 km/h and, as the name implies, helps to keep the car in the lane, in case the driver becomes distracted and the vehicle unintentionally exceeds the limits of the lane.

Finally, the Swedish brand updated the Blind Spot Information system, which now, in addition to alerting the driver to the approach of a vehicle in its “dead spot”, manages to intervene if the alerts are ignored, in order to avoid a collision.

“Our aim is that by the year 2020 there will not be anyone killed or seriously injured in an accident with a new Volvo model,” says Malin Ekholm, director of the safety center at Volvo.

Despite numerous “spy photos” and more or less approximate attempts to foresee how the new Volvo model will be, the Swedish brand has not yet revealed how the new XC60 will be. We'll really have to wait until next week…
